Joe Rogan is best known as a comedian, UFC commentator, actor, and host of the extremely popular Joe Rogan Experience. However, he also happens to be a serious martial artist. In addition to being a BJJ and taekwondo black belt, Rogan has experience in boxing, kickboxing, and Muay Thai. In other words, Joe Rogan is a VERY tough dude. Back when Rogan was the host of Fear Factor, an aggressive contestant learned this lesson the hard way.
Fear Factor was an American television show that originally aired on NBC from 2001 to 2006. The show had contestants compete against each other in a variety of stunts and challenges for a grand prize. Although the show required contestants to perform outrageous acts, such as eating insects, things rarely got physical between participants. This all changed when an angry contestant accosted host Joe Rogan.
Joe Rogan’s Fear Factor Fight
In the episode, a female contestant punched a male contestant in the stomach after he heckled her during a challenge, at which point Rogan said:
“What are you doing? You can’t assault people! What are you doing? It’s called strategy. You can’t run up to him and hit him.”
The woman began to argue with Rogan, at which point he said:
“Look, if you and your husband hit each other, that’s one thing. You don’t run up and hit other contestants.”
It was at this point that the woman’s husband, who was also a contestant on the show, got nose to nose with Rogan and began shouting in his face. Deciding he’d had enough, Rogan placed the man in a Muay Thai clinch and held on to him until other contestants broke up the scuffle. (On a side note, one of the contestants who helped break up the fight was WWE superstar the Miz.)

Joe Rogan’s Take on His Fear Factor Fight
On an episode of the Joe Rogan Experience years after the incident, Joe gave his take on his infamous Fear Factor fight:
“The guy got in my face. There’s a lot of it that wasn’t on film; they didn’t put it on TV. But I pushed him out of my face. He said, ‘Don’t push me!’ I said, ‘Or what, b*tch?’ I [thought], ‘This is just too tense. I’m just gonna grab this guy. I’m not getting punched in the face.’ I just grabbed him; I didn’t hurt him.”
Joe also explained that his first instinct was to place the contestant in a chokehold, but he thought better of it:
“I thought he was gonna hit me! I didn’t hurt him. I was thinking of choking him. But I was like, ‘I better not choke him.’ Because if I choke[d] him, you know, maybe they could sue me.”
How Joe Rogan Got the Fear Factor Job
Perhaps even more interesting than Joe Rogan’s Fear Factor fight is the story of how he landed the job as host of the popular show. On episode 1195 of the Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan explained that the only reason he got the job is because he treated it like a joke.
